MINI MOVIE REVIEW: “The Tall Guy” (1989) — in memoriam of Mel Smith

tall guy

Mel Smith directed (and wrote) this fun little movie starring Jeff Goldblum as an actor in London who has been playing “The Tall Guy” (parlance for the “goofy sidekick”) in Rowan Atkinson’s stage show.  Along the way, Jeff falls in love with Emma Thompson, loses his job, and ends up starring in an Andrew Lloyd Webber-esque musical version of The Elephant Man, called, of course, ELEPHANT!

RIP Mel Smith, you will be missed.  I would have LOVED to have seen the musical version of Richard III … “I’ve Got a Hunch I’m Going to Be King” would have been the most brilliant opening number ever.
